The Y3 Experience

Your Suite Is
Just the Beginning.

Wayanad's peaks, waterfalls, and tea gardens are minutes from your door. Here's what's worth stepping out for.

Beyond The Property

What's Nearby

A hand-picked list, not everything in Wayanad, just the parts we'd actually send a friend to.

Adventure

Vythiri Adventure Park

Zip-lines, rope bridges, rappelling, and valley crossings strung through the forest canopy, right in Vythiri, so it's one of the easiest add-ons to a stay.

📍 10 min drive · Best: Year-round

Getting there: Entry is activity-based, pick individual rides or a combo day pass at the counter. Weekends get busy, so an early arrival (or a heads-up to our concierge) helps you skip the queue.

What to bring: Closed sports shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a little muddy, several of the rope and valley-crossing sections get slippery after rain.

Food nearby: A small on-site cafeteria covers snacks and drinks between activities.

Museum

Honey Museum

A small, guided museum walking through how wild and farmed Wayanad honey is harvested and processed, with tastings and a shop at the end.

📍 5–10 min drive · Best: Year-round

Getting there: A nominal entry fee covers a short guided tour, indoors and quick (under an hour), which makes it a good option on a rainy day between bigger outings.

Good to know: The shop at the end sells estate honey and bee products directly, worth setting aside a little extra time to browse.

Food nearby: Limited beyond the museum's own counter, so pair this with a meal stop on the way rather than relying on anything nearby.

Viewpoint

Lakkidi View Point

The highest point on the Kozhikode–Wayanad ghat road, a misty, forest-wrapped lookout and home to the legendary "chain tree," one of the most photographed stops on the way up.

📍 12–15 min drive · Best: Aug–Dec (mistiest)

Getting there: Right off the main ghat road with roadside parking, no entry fee or permit needed, an easy stop to combine with a drive up or down from Vythiri.

Good to know: Ask about the chain tree legend while you're there, it's one of the more memorable local stories, and mornings bring the thickest mist over the valley.

Food nearby: A handful of tea and snack stalls line the roadside near the viewpoint.

Adventure

Teenzania Adventure Park

A family-friendly activity park built around teens and kids, think go-karting, archery, rock climbing, and zip-lines, picked individually or as a day pass.

📍 10–15 min drive · Best: Year-round

Getting there: Pricing is per-activity or bundled into a day pass at the entrance, worth deciding which activities your group wants before you arrive to skip re-queuing.

Who it suits: Built with teens and families in mind, most attractions have a minimum age or height requirement, so check at the counter if traveling with younger kids.

Food nearby: An on-site food court covers meals and snacks for a full-day visit.

Lake

Pookode Lake

A calm, forest-fringed freshwater lake with pedal boating, an easy, low-effort outing for families or a slow afternoon.

📍 10 min drive · Best: Year-round

Getting there: Entry ticket at the gate; boating is a separate charge. Flat, paved paths make this the most accessible option on this list, easy for families, older guests, or a relaxed non-hiking day.

Good to know: There's also a small aquarium and a toy train on-site, which tends to be a hit if you're traveling with kids.

Food nearby: A proper food court on-site, more variety than most other spots on this list.

Trek

Chembra Peak

Wayanad's highest point, famous for the heart-shaped lake near the summit. A 3–4 hour round trek, best started early to beat both the heat and the crowds.

📍 1 hr 15 min drive · Best: Oct–Mar

Getting there: Trailhead starts at the forest check-post near Meppadi. Entry is permit-based with a daily visitor cap, so arriving by 7–8am improves your chances — our concierge can check same-day availability.

What to bring: Proper trekking shoes (the trail gets slippery after rain), at least 1.5L of water per person, and a light rain layer even in dry season — weather flips quickly at altitude.

Food nearby: A few tea stalls at the base sell snacks and hot chai; there's nothing along the trail itself, so pack something if you tend to get hungry mid-hike.

Waterfall

Soochipara Falls

A three-tiered waterfall reached by a short forest walk. Swimming is allowed at the base pool during the dry season, and it's genuinely worth the short hike in.

📍 1 hr 10 min drive · Best: Nov–May

Getting there: Entry ticket at the forest check-post, then roughly a 10-minute walk from the parking area to the falls — one of the easier entries on this list.

Swimming: Allowed at the base pool with lifeguards on duty, but only during the dry season (Nov–May) — currents are too strong to permit swimming during monsoon months, even though the falls look their fullest then.

Food nearby: Stalls near the parking lot sell tender coconut, tea, and light snacks.

Estate

Tea & Spice Plantations

Guided walks through cardamom, coffee, and tea estates right around Vythiri, most also let you sample and buy directly from the source.

📍 15 min drive · Best: Year-round

Getting there: No permit needed at most estates, though the better guided walks appreciate advance notice — ask our concierge and we'll confirm timing directly with the estate.

What to bring: Closed shoes — plantation paths can be uneven and occasionally muddy underfoot.

Food nearby: Most estates have an on-site tasting counter or small café serving estate-grown coffee and tea.

Viewpoint

Banasura Sagar Dam

India's largest earthen dam, with boating and a walking trail along the reservoir, a relaxed half-day option between more strenuous treks.

📍 40 min drive · Best: Sep–Feb

Getting there: Entry ticket at the main gate; boating is a separate, optional charge paid on-site.

Best time of day: Late afternoon, for sunset light over the reservoir, noticeably quieter than the midday tour-bus crowds too.

Food nearby: Snack stalls near the entrance; nothing elaborate, so this pairs well with a proper meal back at the suite afterward.

Heritage

Edakkal Caves

Prehistoric rock carvings inside a natural cleft on Ambukuthi Hill, a moderate climb rewarded with some of the oldest human markings in South India.

📍 50 min drive · Best: Oct–Apr

Getting there: Requires a forest permit plus entry ticket, both available on-site. The climb takes roughly 45 minutes and includes iron ladders and uneven rock steps.

Who it suits: A moderate climb, not ideal for young children or anyone with knee concerns. Most healthy adults manage it comfortably with a couple of rest stops.

What to bring: Water and a light snack; small stalls at the base sell drinks and basic snacks, but nothing along the climb itself.
